British Royal Navy HMS Spartan S-105, SSN
As all of the six boats in the Swiftsure class, Spartan was laid down at Vickers Shipbuilding & Engineering, Barrow on April 26, 1976; launched April 7, 1978 and commissioned on September 22, 1979.
The first British submarine to reach the Falklands in 1982, British-Argentinean conflict in the South Atlantic, Spartan witnessed the mining of Port Stanley.
She was to have been placed into reserve in the early 1990`s but this never materialized. In 1989 she was fitted with an improved reactor core (Core Z).
HMS Spartan was the last submarine to salute HMS Dolphin-British submarine base in Gosport (Portsmouth).
Spartan entered a refit at Rosyth in 1999 which enabled her to fire tomahawk cruise missiles.
