British Royal Navy HMS Unicorn, S-43, last British Navy`s diesel-electric submarine
HMS Unicorn was the last of the Upholder class, last submarine to be built by Cammell Laird. Laid down in February 1989; launched on April 16 ,1982; commissioned June 25, 1983. On October 16th 1994 Unicorn carried out the very last dive by a British diesel electric submarine with the Flag Officer Submarines (FOSM), Vice Admiral Roger Lane-Nott, aboard. Paid off 1995 after only 478 days in commission.
Admiral Sir Hugo White, the Commander-in-Chief Fleet signaled "As the flotilla now moves into the all-nuclear age, HMS Unicorn has in her short commission upheld to the very end the finest traditions of her forebears".
Leased to Canada and renamed HMS Windsor (SSK 877).
