British Royal Navy submarine HMS Amphion, S-43 HMS Amphion, P-439 later on S-43, was the first of class to be launched in August 1944, one of 16 A class submarines built towards and after the end of WW-II, designed for war in the Pacific, having a high (approx 18 knots) surface speed.  Operating in that ocean, the vast distances would need to be covered quickly, but she was completed, as most of her class, too late to see action. Laid down as Anchorite but name changed before launch. After the end of the war she underwent hull streamlining and various modifications as all of her class did.
